A classroom program called "Keeping Touches Safe and Healthy" is scheduled to be presented to third grade students on the following dates:
  • Jan. 3-4, 2018 Skippack Elementary
  • Jan. 5, 2018 Schwenksville Elementary
  • Jan. 9, 2018 South Elementary
  • Jan. 12, 2018 Evergreen Elementary
The program, which provides self-protection information to children, is conducted by the Victim Services Center of Montgomery County. This is a sexual abuse prevention program for children. These programs are designed to introduce students to the concepts of personal boundaries, as well as to help them gain confidence in standing up for themselves in potentially dangerous situations. The goal is to help children develop basic safety skills in a way that is helpful rather than frightening.

During “Keeping Touches Safe and Healthy,” the presenters will discuss safe and unsafe kinds of touching, as well as concepts of privacy and how to deal with situations in which they may be inappropriately touched. Students will be taught to say “No!” assertively, get away to a safe place, and tell a grownup they trust. They will be encouraged to think of multiple adults they know they can turn to for help.

Parent may opt their child(ren) out of the program by notifying their child’s school counselor or school nurse. Additionally, parents may preview the program upon request. Please feel free to contact your child’s school nurse or counselor with any questions.
